My posts may be a bit infrequent for some time as I am currently without a home computer…
My daughter (11months) pulled a cup of water out of my wife’s hand and splashed water on my now non-functional laptop.
I will attempt to keep up to the best of my ability during down times at work.
****Update****
So we called some local computer stores to inquire as to repair cost. Most had a minimum “will look at your computer for $150.” They all said, “Sounds like the motherboard. It’s probably not worth it.” A new motherboard is ~$450. One local repair guy said minimum repair charge $82.50 but free if it can’t be fixed. I called him today and he said that he could not fix it. So I went to the store, picked up my worthless laptop, and brought it home. Realizing that I could do no worse, I decided to investigate…
I took off the keyboard, the monitor, the touch pad, the hard drive, the memory, the battery, the wireless and modem cards, the video driver, and the CPU. I noticed two small areas of what looked like water spots, or maybe it was some corrosion. I found an old tooth brush and brushed off the spots, saw nothing else on the motherboard that I had any confidence to monkey with, and put the computer back together. I have no parts left over; however, my two-year-old son picked up a piece of my laptop and was waving it around like a sword. He lost one of the superficial buttons.
After putting everything back together I pushed the power button and my computer came on and stayed on. After downloading 30 emails, and purchasing some backup software things are up and running. Praise the Lord! Net Cost $0, Time about 4 hours.
Hmmmm, maybe you should go into the computer repair business?
